February 11, 2019: Invite your minister, rabbi, priest, imam or other faith leader to be a part of Civitan Clergy Appreciation Week, an international project of Civitan International, which honors local leaders of all faiths for their dedicated service to their local communities. Since 1963, Civitan clubs around the world have set aside a week in February of each year to honor local faith leaders for their acts of service.
The project was inspired by the story of the Four Chaplains. On February 3, 1943, four military chaplains—a Methodist minister, a Catholic priest, a Reformed minister and a Jewish rabbi—sacrificed their lives in service to others on board the USS Dorchester. The troop transport ship, in route to Greenland, was hit by a torpedo. The four chaplains, George L. Fox, Alexander D. Goode, John P. Washington, and Clark V. Poling, removed their own life jackets to give to other passengers.
February 25, 2019: Britany K. J. Brady, President, Henderson County Partnership for Economic Development.
What do Harmony Harps & Music (produces carbon fiber harps), Kyocera International Fine Ceramics Group and Microtech Knives have in common? They all either moved to Henderson County from somewhere else or expanded their operations here. How do these companies find out about Henderson County and all that it offers? “The Henderson County Partnership for Economic Development, Inc. is the professional economic development entity for Henderson County. It works to: attract and retain quality jobs; soliciting new business compatible with the assets and value of Henderson County; promote Henderson County’s business image; assist expansion of existing companies; and enhance the county’s overall quality of life.” Brittany will help us understand how all of this works. Their annual report will get your started. (http://gohendersoncountync.org/app/uploads/2018/12/HCPED-17-18-AR-for-web_final-one-page-up-for-website.pdf)
